Japanese consortium interested in third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal Int'l Airport

Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi has said that a consortium of his country named 'Sumitomo Corporation' is interested in operations and maintenance work of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's third terminal. 

He disclosed it at a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at the Commerce Ministry in the Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday. Sk. Bashir is also the Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser.

The envoy also expressed their interests to sit with Bangladesh's Civil Aviation Authority regarding the matter as soon as possible. Saida Shinichi went on saying that Japan has been playing a pivotal role in the development of Bangladesh for a long time.

At that time, Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin said, Japan is a trusted and important development partner of Bangladesh. The successful EPA negotiations and the interest of the Japanese consortium in the airport will further strengthen bilateral economic and trade relationship.  The EPA agreement is very important for Bangladesh which will ensure duty and quota free access for Bangladeshi goods to Japanese market.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry's Secretary Nasreen Jahan, Japan Embassy's first Secretary on economic and development affairs Karasawa Shinzu, Country General Manager of Sumitomo Corporation in Bangladesh Hironori Yamanaka were present at the meeting.
