Journalists of various print and electronic media working in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla held a human chain protesting the death threats to Jamuna Television's Cumilla Bureau Chief Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury Khokon.

The human chain was held in front of Daudkandi Model Police Station at around 11 am on Thursday (November 27).

The speakers in the human chain strongly condemned the threats issued against the journalist and said that journalist Khokon works for truth and justice. Preventing him from performing his professional duties by threatening him is against democracy and independent journalism. 

They demanded that the threat makers be identified immediately and brought to justice.

Local journo leaders said that Khokon Chowdhury has been doing journalism with honesty and integrity for a long time. No truth can be suppressed by intimidating him. If necessary, the journalists community will announce a stricter program.

The speakers also strongly urged to the upazila adminstration to ensure the safety of journalists in the human chain. 

Organized by Mohana TV's Cumilla District Representative Journalist Md. Sahab Uddin, Journalists MH Mohan (Amar Desh), Mohammad Ali (Amar Desh), Karim Sarker (Rupali Bangladesh), Liton Sarker Badol (Khaborer Kagoj), Omar Faruq Miyaze (Kaler Kantho), Sharif Pradhan (Ittefaq), Zakir Hazari (Desh Rupantor), Hanif Khan (Naya Diganta), Alamgir Hossain (Cumillar Kagoj), Zillur Rahman (My TV), Hossain Mohammad Didar (The Bangladesh Today), Toufiq Rubel (Sangram) and Masum Billah (Anand Bazar) spoke at the human chain. 

Among others, journalist Shamim Raihan (Janakantha), Apel Mahmud (Bangla TV), Shahabuddin Ahmed (Kalbela), Habibur Rahman (NTV), Mohammad Kamrul Haque Chowdhury (Daily Observer), Selim Ahmed (Protisomoy), Mamunur Rashid Rubel (Protidiner Bangladesh), Ahnaf Tihami (Kaler Kantho Digital), Alek Hossain (Bangladesh Shomachar), Rajib Ahmed (Niropekkho).

, Rasel Munshi (FB News), Md. Shariful Islam (Sokaler Somoy) and Md. Saiful Islam (Jaijaidin) were present at the human chain.
