The family of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has voiced serious concerns regarding his well-being, as he remains in solitary confinement without any communication for the past 47 days. Khan's sons, Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan, have raised alarms about potential undisclosed issues regarding their father's health, claiming that authorities are hiding 'something irreversible'.
Imran Khan has been held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he is reportedly kept in what has been described as a 'death cell'. The lack of information about his condition has led to growing fears among his family and supporters. According to news agency Reuters, the situation is compounded by the absence of any direct contact, despite a judicial ruling that mandated weekly visits.
Kasim Khan expressed the family's frustration, stating, "Today, we have no verifiable information at all about his condition. Our greatest fear is that something irreversible is being hidden from us." He added that the uncertainty surrounding his father's safety is akin to psychological torture.
Imran Khan's ex-wife, Jemima Goldsmith, also highlighted the issue, stating on social media that no one is allowed to communicate with him, not even by phone. The family has been denied visits, even when court orders have been issued allowing them access.
Kasim Khan further noted that his father has been imprisoned for a total of 845 days, with the last six weeks spent in solitary confinement. He has labelled the situation as one of 'absolute blackout', suggesting that the authorities are deliberately keeping the family in the dark about Imran Khan's status.
The former Prime Minister's last social media post, dated November 5, raised further concerns. In that communication, he pointed fingers at Army Chief Asim Munir, whom he accused of being the primary figure responsible for his plight. Khan described Munir as 'the most tyrannical dictator in history' and claimed that both he and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were suffering under his orders.
Imran Khan has faced a series of legal challenges that his supporters argue are politically motivated. He was originally imprisoned in August 2023 following a series of corruption convictions. The tension between Khan and the military establishment, led by Asim Munir, has escalated in recent months, particularly after constitutional changes in November that increased the military's authority.
The ongoing silence regarding Imran Khan's situation has led to widespread speculation, with fears that he may be facing dire circumstances. As the situation develops, many are calling for transparency and accountability regarding his treatment and health.
