Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has reported the arrest of three more people in connection with the attempted murder of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi, reports bdnews24.com.
Among those arrested is the wife of Faisal Karim Masud, who was previously identified as a suspect.
The elite police unit reported the arrests were carried out on Sunday night from locations in Narayanganj and Dhaka. They are Faisal's wife Samia, his brother-in-law Shipu, and Shipu's partner Maria, all identified with single names. RAB spokesperson MZM Intekhab Chowdhury said Samia and Shipu were arrested in Narayanganj, while Maria was arrested in Dhaka.
He said they have received information that Faisal spoke to them frequently on the phone before and after the shooting on Friday.
In connection with the shooting, RAB earlier reported the arrest of Abdul Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle used during the shooting. Police later took him on a three-day remand.
On the other hand, the police arrested two men at Sherpur's Nalitabari during border surveillance to prevent the escape of those who shot Hadi.
A message on Sunday said, "RAB has handed over a large amount of chequebooks and electronic devices signed by the primary suspect in this incident, Faisal, to police along with three suspects."
On Friday, Hadi was shot in the head while travelling in a moving battery-run rickshaw, with the assailant firing from a motorcycle.
