A Dhaka court has handed down orders to place detained journalist Anis Alamgir on remand for five days under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam issued this order after a hearing was held on this petition on Monday.
Earlier on, Anis Alamgir was produced before the court on Monday afternoon being shown arrested in connection with certain statutory laws. A few officers from Detective Branch (DB), Dhaka Metropolitan Police picked up Anis Alamgir on Sunday night and took him to the DB Office.
Anis Alamgir was moved to the above court yesterday. Investigating Officer Police Inspector Muniruzzaman applied to the court seeking seven days remand for interrogating Anis Alamgir. However, the court allowed five days remand for questioning Anis Alamgir under police custody.
It may be added that the arrest news on Anis Alamgir has sparked widespread criticism and denunciation on social media and among conscious citizens from all walks of life throughout Bangladesh.
