Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), through extensive operations conducted in border areas and other locations across the country during December 2025, successfully seized various types of smuggled goods worth a total of Tk 155 crore 59 lakh 11 thousand, according to a BGB press release.
The seized contraband items include 2.06338 kg of gold, 14,883 sarees, 26,100 three-pieces/shirt pieces/shawls/blankets, 26,520 ready-made garments, 9,883 meters of fabric, 443,646 cosmetic items, 16,954 pieces of imitation jewellery, 3,386,882 fireworks, 11,119 cubic feet of timber, 4,639 kg of tea leaves, 10,099 kg of betel nuts, 23,130 kg of coal, 708 cubic feet of stone, 176 cubic feet of sand, 4,636 plastic/electronic items, 191 mobile phones, 1,532 mobile displays, 16,473 spectacles, 34,281 kg of cumin, 4,787 kg of sugar, 103,326 kg of onions, 6,060 kg of garlic, 1,905 packets of various seeds, 6,575 kg of fertilizer, 615 packets of pesticides, 311 liters of diesel, 226,111 pieces of chocolate, 865 cattle (cows/buffaloes), one idol made of touchstone, and a large number of vehicles including 8 trucks/covered vans, 13 pickups/mahindras, 1 tractor, 7 private cars/microbuses, 2 trolleys, 69 boats, 25 CNGs/easy bikes, 53 motorcycles, and 39 bicycles/vans. Recovered arms and ammunition include 12 foreign/local pistols, 1 rifle, 3 hand grenades, 16 magazines, 336 rounds of ammunition, 1 mortar shell, 17 kg of gunpowder, and 6 other types of weapons.
In addition, BGB seized a huge quantity of narcotics and intoxicating substances during the same period. The recovered drugs include 911,982 Yaba tablets, 354 grams of heroin, 2,101 bottles of Phensedyl, 7.439 kg of crystal meth ice, 8,999 bottles of foreign liquor, 272.5 liters of locally brewed alcohol, 1,207 cans/bottles of beer, 1,794 kg of cannabis, 232,264 packets of bidi and cigarettes, 32,210 narcotic tablets/injections, 4,217 bottles of Eskuf syrup, 20,848 bottles of various syrups, 11,695 tablets of Anagra/Senegra, 5 bottles of LSD, and 681,248 pieces of various medicines and tablets. During border operations, 171 smugglers involved in drug trafficking and other smuggling activities were arrested. Additionally, 134 Bangladeshi nationals, 15 Indian nationals, and 276 Myanmar nationals were detained for illegally crossing the border. Legal action has been taken against all detainees in accordance with the law.
