I saved 10 million people in India and Pakistan: Trump

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told him he helped avert a major conflict between India and Pakistan, a move Trump said saved the lives of nearly 10 million people, reports The Hindu.

Speaking during a campaign interaction on Saturday, Donald Trump asserted that his intervention played a decisive role in de-escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours at a time when the situation could have spiralled into a large-scale war. According to Donald Trump, the Pakistani Prime Minister expressed gratitude, crediting US diplomatic pressure and leadership for preventing a catastrophic outcome.

The statement has drawn attention due to its sweeping nature and the absence of official confirmation from India regarding such mediation. India has consistently maintained that issues with Pakistan are bilateral and rejects third-party involvement in resolving disputes.

Trump's remarks come amid his ongoing efforts to highlight foreign policy achievements during his presidency, often reiterating claims of preventing wars and brokering peace. The comments have once again reignited debate around past India-Pakistan crises, diplomatic narratives, and the role of international actors in South Asian geopolitics.
