Man held for fraudulently posing as APS of PM in Manikganj

Detective Branch police of Manikganj arrested a man named Abdullah Al Mamun, 46, on charges of fraud by identifying himself as a assistant personal secretary to the prime minister.

The arrestee Mamun, son of Abdul Hamid of Uyil village of Daulatpur police station in Manikganj, has currently been living in the Jaleswar area of Savar in Dhaka. There are 6 cases against him, including cheque forgery, in 2 of which he is a convicted fugitive.

A press briefing held at the Superintendent of Police's office on Friday afternoon revealed that he was arrested in a raid in the Jaleswar area of Savar in Dhaka around 11 pm on May 21 (Thursday). At that time, a mobile phone used for fraud, a fake journalist ID card, a jeep with the word 'PRESS' written in English, a Supreme Court lawyer's leaflet and a photocopy of a land purchase and sale document were recovered from him.

During the initial interrogation, it has been learned that Mamun has been defrauding the common people for a long time in the name of land and flat business. Apart from this, he used to extort huge amounts of money by presenting himself as a VIP and offering transfers and promotions to government officials. He is also accused of extorting huge sums of money by promising to exonerate the accused in various cases following the coup in July.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Sarwar Alam (BPM-Service) said, "Abdullah Al Mamun has a total of 6 previous cases, including cheque fraud. Out of these, he was convicted in 2 cases and was absconding for a long time."

Further legal action in this incident is underway, the SP added.
