Hindu idols vandalized in Rajbari


10 idols of Hindu god Shiva and goddess Kali at five family temples were vandalized at Kanchranda village at Goalanda in Rajbari on early Tuesday.

Police and family sources said Mantu Kumar Sheel, 65, found the heads of Kali and Shiva idols lying damaged on his courtyard in the morning.

The miscreants also vandalized the idols of Kali, Shiva at the temples of Palan Karmakar, Partho Das, Samar Sheel and Raton Karmakar at the same village. They stole a Shiva idol from the temple of Ratan Karmakar at that time.

On information, superintendent of police Salma Begum, additional superintendent of police Tariqul Islam and Bangladesh Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Parishad's Goalanda unit president Nirmal Kumar Chakrabarti visited the spot, reports UNB.

Talking to reporters, SP Salma said a three-member probe body, headed by additional superintendent of police Tariqul Islam, was formed to look into the incident. Besides, the local union council chairman was asked to take steps to form a vigilante group at the village, added the SP.
