Sheikh Hasina Jokhon Karagare by Principal Shahjahan Alam Shaju, publisher - Biswa Shahitya Bhaban, August 2016 Bangladesh has grabbed a significant space in the global politics under the far reaching leadership of Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina. Enviable successes in different sectors have placed Bangladesh in a prestigious position.
Statesmanship of Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is behind the present position of Bangladesh in the world arena. But Hasina had to pass an uneven path to reach today's stage. At every step, she had to overcome hurdles and still continue...
Deadly attacks have been carried out with aim to kill her. But she miraculously survived. Different conspiracies have been hatched to stop her in the mission of making Bangladesh a 'Sonar Bangla' which was dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On August 21, 2004, a gruesome grenade attack was carried out at an anti-terrorism rally organized by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue. 24 people were killed and more than 300 injured in the deadly attack targeting Sheikh Hasina who was seriously injured.
July 16 2007 is a shameful day in the history of Bangladesh. The army-backed interim government led by Dr Fakhuddin Ahmed arrested Sheikh Hasina on that day. At the end the tenure of BNP-Jamaat government in 2006, a chaotic situation was created over the formation of the caretaker government with a view to holding a free, fair and credible election.
But BNP led government appointed the then President Prof Iajuddin Ahmed, BNP loyalist, as the head of the caretaker government. But Awami League didn't accept this government and launched movement all over the country with the demand of a neutral caretaker administration.
In the same time, the then Election Commission (EC) was also working at the directions of Iajuddin to implement the agenda of BNP-Jamaat. People of all walks of life came on the streets supporting the legitimate demand of Awami League for a neutral caretaker government.
But the army-backed interim government started to procrastinate on different excuses. They started to arrest political leaders with a view to depoliticizing the country with evil motives. As part of this conspiracy, they arrested Sheikh Hasina and kept her in a sub-jail where she languished many days without sufficient food and treatment.
The arrest of Sheikh Hasina was widely condemned in home and abroad. Intellectuals and civil society members raised their voices against the unjust of arresting of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina. They started to write in media for the release and gave messages about the consequences of it. The sharp writings of illustrious intellectuals played a vital role in releasing her.
Principal Shahjahan Alam Shaju has compiled those writings and photographs published in different newspaper after the arrest of Sheikh Hasina. He has done a great job to gather valuable writings of the intellectuals of the country against the arrest of Sheikh Hasina in a book.
The book will be considered as a historic document as the days Sheikh Hasina passed in jail after 1/11 are important to assess her struggle for democracy. The fourth edition of the book has already hits the market for its popularity as the book has earned admiration of readers.
Though the book is compiled one, it has been widely praised home and abroad as it is a collection of valuable write-ups of famed personalities whose sharp pens paved the way for the release of Sheikh Hasina under whose leadership Bangladesh is currently marching towards advancement with dignity.
