The fourth death anniversary of former President Zillur Rahman, a veteran politician and Language Movement hero, an organizer of the Liberation War, and one of the close associates of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed today.
Zillur Rahman died of old-age complications at a Singapore hospital on March 20, 2013. He started his political career as a volunteer of Awami League and was inducted as the 19th president of the country on February 12, 2009. He discharged his responsibilities as general secretary of AL for 12 years for five different terms.
Bangladesh Awami League, its associate bodies, other like-minded organizations and socio-cultural and professional bodies have chalked out various programs to pay homage to the late leader.
The programs include: placing wreaths at Banani grave of the President, milad mahfil, Quran khwani , doa-munajat and discussions in the capital and elsewhere across the country. AL will place wreath at his grave at Banani graveyard in the capital at 8:00am while a milad mahfil will be held at late President's Gulshan residence after Asr prayers.
