The 136th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is expected to focus on parliamentarians’ roles in fighting terrorism, has begun in Dhaka.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to inaugurate the assembly joined by 45 speakers, 37 deputy speakers and more than 1,500 MPs from around the globe on Saturday.
The national anthem of Bangladesh was sung on the first day of the assembly at the parliament’s South Plaza in Dhaka.
The five-day event aims at developing antiterrorism strategies, IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong said on Friday.
