Rich tribute pours in for Dr Karunamaya Goswami Relatives and cultural activists bid tearful farewell to eminent musicologist Dr Karunamaya Goswami at Central Shaheed Minar yesterday. -AA

People from all walks of life paid their last tributes to eminent musicologist Dr Karunamaya Goswami. His body was brought to Bangla Academy yesterday where people of several organizations including cultural activists gathered.   
Dr Anisuzzaman, on behalf of Bangla Academy, paid last tribute. He said that Dr Goswami had unparallel knowledge on literature. The Bangla Academy president also recalled his contribution about the history of literature and critical analysis of aesthetics.         

Later Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader paid tribute to Dr Goswami on behalf of the party. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor recalling Goswami said: "Although he was a student of English literature all of his works are in Bangla and those enriched our literature. He was a lighthouse of of music, research, literature and culture."      

Dr Goswami passed away at his Baridhara house on the night of June 30. He was 74. Her daughter, Tithi Goswami, talked to the reporters about the 'unfinished' work of her father.  I have 30-35 hours of recording of my father about his philosophy and work, said Tithi and hoped she would write a biography. Dr Goswami came to Bangladesh from USA soon before his death, saying so, the daughter cited: "My father wrote two books on 1947, the separation of India. He started the third part and we were asked come Bangladesh for the sake of the write-up."

She also promised to patronize any research on her father. The body was taken to Central Shaheed Minar under the banner of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote. After paying tribute there, the body was taken to Goswami's hometown Narayanganj.
