Dilapidated road condition of Durgapur to Shyamganj has reduced tourists movements in naturally beautiful upazila of Netrakona district.
Susongo Durgapur, the border upazila, is widely familiar spot as a visiting area Mymensingh in Netrakona. But the tourists have been losing interest to visit this beautiful area for dilapidated communication. Hund-reds of low income people are becoming workless due to the unfit Durgapur-Shyamnganj route for the visitors.
In a visit to this spot our Durgapur Correspondent found, there are over 11 hotels in Durgapur upazila. Among them 7 hotels are in Birishiri. In this season tourists come to visit the area and the hotels become profitable. A hotel owner said, this year tourist are not coming like previous years.
An ethnic woman who has Garo community traditional cloths shop in Durgapur said, in the recent past tourists would come in this season regularly. But this year there are only few tourists coming. She has been facing loss in her shop.
Shyamganj to Birishiri road is 32 km long. Local people also have been suffering from the dilapidated road condition.
Binita Daoa, a hotel owner said, if tourist come in the next Eid that will reduce the loss. She requested the authority to repair Durgapur to Shyamganj road immediately to reduce the loss of local small entrepreneurs.
Awami League executive member Remond Areng said to The Asian Age Correspondent Nirmalendu Sarkar Babul that, over Tk 318 crore has been allotted for the reconstruction of this road. They already have chosen contractor. In the end of July the road construction work will start.
