Yamzhog Yumco Lake: Sapphire in Tibet
Located in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, Yamzhog Yumco Lake, together with the Namco and Mapham Yutso Lakes, are regarded as three sacred lakes.
Meaning “jade lake on the upper meadow” in Tibetan, Yamzhog Yumco Lake looks like a sapphire embedded into the green grasslands surrounding the body of water. It’s also the biggest enclosed lake on the northern slope of the Himalayas.
