HC verdict on Narayanganj 7-murder on 22 August

The High Court will deliver its verdict on August 22 on the death references and appeals in sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case.

Our special correspondent Fardaus Mobarak confirmed the news from court.

The bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singh and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam fixed the date after concluding hearing on the death references and appeals.

The High Court were scheduled to deliver the verdict on August 13, but they changed the date for delivering the verdict in the death references and appeals of 26 death-row convicts in two cases filed over Narayanganj seven-murder.

Earlier on May 7, the paper book and all documents related to the murder cases were sent to the High Court.

On April 27, 2014, City Councillor Nazrul Islam and five of his associates were abducted from their car on Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road.

Around the same time and from the same location, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and his driver, who were in another car, were kidnapped.

Three days later, their bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya River. After one year investigation, police pressed charges against Nur Hossain, three senior officers of the Narayanganj-based RAB battalion and 31 others.

Nur Hossain had fled immediately after the killings, but was detained in India’s Kolkata and brought back to Bangladesh 17 months later.

Twenty three suspects including senior RAB officers are Tarek Sayeed Mohamad, Arif Hossain and MM Rana are now in police custody, while out of the 12 absconding, eight were members of the Narayanganj-based RAB 11.
