A worker, who among 11 others sustained burn injuries in a furnace blast at a re-rolling mill at Choto Kumira in Sitakunda upazila on Tuesday morning, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the evening.
The deceased was identified as Shah Alam, 30, son of Abdul Haque, a resident of Ilisha village in Bhola sadar upazila.
A furnace of ‘GPH Re-Rolling Mill’ went off with a big bang in the early hours of the day, leaving 11 workers of the factory injured.
The injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
As the situation of six workers deteriorated, they were shifted to the burn unit of DMCH where doctors declared Shah Alam dead around 6:00 pm, said Dr Partho Sankar, a resident surgeon of burn unit.
