Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO) has urged the government for an immediate regulation to ban hazardous lead paint. The NGO also expressed its concern over the necessity to publish the gazette for a standard of 90 ppm lead content in paint.
The call was made at a policy dialogue at ESDO office yesterday. Chairperson of ESDO Syed Marghub Murshed presided over the meeting while it was attended by government officials from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Environment (DoE) and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
Murshed, also a former Secretary, said, "Although paint manufacturers association supports the regulation in this regard, it can't be implemented until the government takes immediate initiative.
