The 16th death anniversary of former MP and valiant freedom fighter Advocate Abdul Latif will be observed today (Friday).

Advocate Abdul Latif was elected Member of Parliament with a huge margin of votes from the constituency Brahman-baria-5 (Nabinagar) in the national election in 1996. After being MP, Abdul Latif transformed neglected Nabinagar upazila into a modern one.

His mentionable works during his tenure include establishing Nabinagar municipality and upgraded it to first class status, setting up Nabinagar Women's College, construction of protection embankment on the banks of the Titas River with a view to protecting Nabinagar town, large and small 300 bridges including Kanikara Bridge on the Buri River, a good number of roads and a modern bus stand in upazila sadar etc.

Besides, Advocate Abdul Latif built a modern Nabinagar free from political violence, terrorism, extortion and drugs. On the occasion of the death anniversary of Advocate Abdul Latif, Awami League and its associate organizations have arranged reminiscence meeting and doa mahfil at his birthplace Dharabhanga, Nabinagar College, Solimganj College and other places. All are requested to present at the program.

Advocate Abdul Latif contributed to the overall development of his constituency while he was a member of parliament.
By establishing  Nabinagar Women's College, he contributed to the socio-economic development of women in the area.
