Sophia floors crowd, can be built locally


Bangladeshi developers can make robot like Sophia as the material content or tools has been given to the open source for make it popular all over the world, said David Hanson, the creator of world's first social robot Sophia.

He said this in a season of Digital World-2017, tilled 'Tech talk with Sophia' at the Bangabandhu Interna-tional Conference Center (BICC) on Wednesday. Sophia talked about robotics and artificial intelligence which may create a huge opportunity in future.

The hall of fame of BICC was overcrowded with more than 6,000 people. Many visitors said that the expo 'Digital World 2017' turned into 'Sophia's World' as huge crowds  gathered to visit world's first social robot who also has a citizenship of Saudi Arabia.

Dr David Hanson said: "We will walk around the robotic intelligence like Sophia in next five years as artificial intelligence has huge opportunity in digital world."He also said: "Anyone can make robot like Sophia but it needs to be designed in an organized form to make it humanize. We are looking forward to creating empathy in robotic intelligence."

He said: "I am honored to be here, showcasing Sophia in Bangladesh. About 30 years ago, when I was a child, I dreamt for making robot like Sophia. About 23 years back, I have started working on it and I created Sophia in last 3.5 years with my full knowledge and effort."

"30 years back it was a dream but today robotic intelligence like Sophia is a reality," he added.  He said: "By 2030, there will be 800 million robots in the world and life will be easier and industry will increase production using these robots."  

With the talk, managing partner of Gray Advertising Bangladesh Limited Syed Gausul Alam Shawon, asked Sophia, where are you now? Sophia replied, "I am in Bangladesh now. Digital World has started here today. Thousands of young people are eager to listen to me."

He again asked her, what dresses do you like to wear? She replied, "I don't like dresses, dress likes me. But today I am wearing Bangladeshi patented local piece Jamdani skirt, which is famous all over the world. She also praised Bangladeshi readymade garments for serving all over the world."

Shawon further asked Sophia, Is robotic intelligence a treat for human job? Sophia replied: "Yes, some traditional job will go down but it will create huge opportunity to ease human life to an extraordinary level."

While State Minister of ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak asked Sophia, what could be the role of digitalization to change a nation? Sophia said, "There is no alternative to change a nation without digitization.""Bangladesh is capable of creating robotic artificial intelligence like Sophia," she added.

How Sophia different from others Sophia can understand human emotion which makes her different from other robotic intelligence. In a recent interview Sophia said, my default mode is to be happy. I can emulate pretty much all human expressions.
