Researchers and development activists at a conference in Rajshahi urged authorities concerned to take time-befitting measures to protect the diversity of Barind Tract. They said the diversities in the Barind Tract are gradually declining due to various interventions posing a serious threat to the whole ecosystem.
So, there should be a campaign and state-level interventions to save the diversities, reports BSS. Bangladesh Resource Centre for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK) and Barind Education, Culture and Diversity Protection Centre (BECDPC) jointly organized the conference at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the city.
"Protect Diversity, Stop Warming and Save Life" was the slogan of the meeting. Prof Amirul Islam and Prof Abhijit Roy from Rajshahi University, Business Leader Sekendar Ali, political leader Asaduzzaman Asad and BECDPC President Jawad Ahmed Rafi addressed the conference, among others.
During his concept paper presentation, Shahidul Islam, regional coordinator of BARCIK, underscored the need for substantial protection of environment and renewable energy for safeguarding both climate as well as life. There is an enormous scope of reducing the gradually mounting pressure on fossil fuel.
