Defending champions Dhaka Dynamites will have to come up with something special if they want to bring down high flying Comilla Victorians when the powerhouses meet in the first Qualifier on December 8.Interestingly, both Dynamites and Victorians are vying for their second Bangladesh Premier League title to establish their superiority. The winner of the match will reach the final straightaway while the losers will face the winner between Rangpur Riders and Khulna Titans in Qualifier 2.
The losers in the eliminator phase featuring Riders and Titans will pack their baggage while the winner will have to cross the hurdle of featuring in the second qualifier, which will decide the second participant of the final on December 12.
Victorians has been in tremendous form this season. They have won a remarkable nine matches during the league stage, something that has helped them finish at the top of the table. Victorians have a well-balanced side, with both their batting and bowling departments firing in tandem.
Skipper Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das have been in good form, and will look to give Victorians a good start. The duo is well backed up in the batting order, with the likes of Imrul Kayes, Jos Butler, Marlon Samuels and in-form Shoaib Malik and to add to that, the presence of the Dwayne Bravo and Mohammad Saifuddin - who can chip in with both the bat and the ball, imparts more balance to their side.
Their bowling unit has also been one of the strongest, with top pace bowlers like Pakistani Hasan Ali trying to make his presence felt in every game and receiving an able support from Saifuddin and Al Amin Hossain. But they seemed to possess the biggest revelation of BPL with off-spinner Mehedi Hasan as he is going from strength to strength with each passing days since his remarkable debut against Rangpur Riders, who own two greatest Twenty20 entertainers Chris Gayle and McCullum and doing well in that game seemed to help the lad raise his confidence level.
Though there is a second chance for the loser, Victorians coach Mohammad Salahuddin don't want to look that far as he is eyeing to do the job at hand to secure a birth in the final.'I am not thinking about it as we want to win the game and take a place in the final,' said Salahuddin. Momentum is very important and it can be gone by losing a match so we are thinking we have only one game and would be eliminated if we lose,' he added.
Dynamites will be encouraged with the form of Shakib al Hasan as he single handedly secured them a place in the first qualifier by making an all-round effort to beat Riders. Evin Lewis is expected to be their trump card, while the likes of Sunil Narine at the top and Juhurul Islam and Joe Denley to follow with Shakib, Mossadek and Afridi to follow it is always a side that thrived to reach the top. Mohammad Amir and Abu Hider will operate the pace department while there are chances of Shakib, Narine and Afridi along with Mossadek to exploit the condition with their spin bowling.
