The construction work of Sheikh Hasina Road connecting Bijoynagar upazila with Brahmanbaria Sadar is going on in full swing. Earth-filling is underway beside Pattan and Char Islampur unions known as 'bhati elaka' of Bijoynagar upazila. -AA The construction work of Sheikh Hasina road connecting Bijoynagar upazila with Brahmanbaria sadar is going on in full swing. Earth-filling is underway beside villages of Pattan and Char Islampur unions known as 'bhati elaka' of Bijoynagar upazila. In 8 kilometers of 10-kilometer-long road, earth-filling has already been completed. According to contractor, the earth-filling will come to an end within next three months. Thereafter, the construction of three bridges, guide walls and blocks will be started.
Sources said the estimated cost of constructing three bridges is Tk 116 crore. Within a few days, the tenders of the construction works of the bridges will be floated. The rapid implementation of Sheikh Hasina road project has made the people of Bijoynagar happy and optimistic for it is a long-cherished dream of the people of Bijoynagar.
After the construction of the road, people of Bijoynagar upazila can commute to district sadar within 15 to 20 minutes. At present, the people of this area have to go to Brahmanbaria sadar through Akhaura upazila or Sarail upazila travelling a long distance. The road will lessen the long-standing sufferings of them. With the construction of the road, prices of lands in Bijoynagar have increased ten folds.
To mention, local lawmaker RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury inaugurated the earth-filling work of the road on November 25, 2016 in Pattan area of Bijoynagar upazila. About the road, Jamal Mia, a resident of Char Islampur village under Bijoynagar upazial, said, 'Sheikh Hasina road' is a long-cherished dream of the people of 10 unions of Bijoynagar. People of this area suffer immensely as there is no direct road to the district sadar. I urge the government to complete the construction of the road immediately.
Shamim Mia, a former member of Char Islampur Union Council, said, after the completion of the road, Bijoynagar will be a prosperous upazila. Agricultural produce of Bijoynagar can easily be transported to different districts of the country through the road. He conveyed thanks to local lawmaker Muktadir Chowdhury for the construction of the road.
In this regard, Brahmanbaria Press Club General Secretary and also a resident of Bijoynagar's Mirzapur village, Dipak Chowdhury Bappi said, the under-construction Sheikh Hasina road is like 'Padma Bridge' to the people of Bijoynagar upazila. It is long-cherished dream of us.
Our dream is being materialized gradually. After the completion of the road, the face of Bijoynagar will be changed. Bijoynagar Upazila Parishad Chairman Advocate Tanvir Bhuiyan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and local MP Muktadir Chowdhury for taking initiative to construct the road which will change the fates of the people of Bijoynagar. The senior Assistant Engineer of Brahmanbaria LGED Abdur Razzaque said, Sheikh Hasina road is a project of the World Bank.
