164 get aid in Gaibandha -The Asian Age


A total of 164 flood victims of Kamarjani union under Sadar upazila of Gaibandha got TK 14.76 lakh as grant on Tuesday through the rocket service of Dutch Bangla Mobile Banking.Funded by UKAID, a national NGO, RDRS Bangladesh, distributed the grant received through United Nations Office for Project Services to the beneficiaries of the union under Flood Recovery and Empowerment Project in cooperation with Dan Church Aid, sources said, reports BSS.

A simple function to this effect was held at Kunderpara Char of the union with local union parishad chairman Abdus Salam Zakir in the chair.District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer AKM Idris Ali formally inaugurated the grant distribution activity to the selected beneficiaries as the chief guest. Each of the beneficiaries received a grant of TK 9,000, of which, TK 4000 had been allotted for earth cutting, 1000 for training purpose and TK 4,000 for livelihoods, said an official of RDRS Bangladesh.

Speaking at the function, DRRO AKM Idris Ali thanked RDRS Bangladesh and other donor organizations for standing beside the flood victims of the union. Project coordinator of Dan Church Aid Siddqur Rahman, programme manager of RDRS Bangladesh Porsia Rahman, local elite and public representatives including media men were present on the occasion.

Monsoon rains have triggered flooding across 11 districts in northeastern Bangladesh, affecting at least 1.3 million people as of 16 July of 2017. NGO partners report that vast areas of Moulvibazar and Sylhet remain under water affecting agricultural livelihoods. The Government has released cash grants and distributed food to the affected districts.
