HC drops contempt plea against DU VC -The Asian Age

The High Court on Monday dropped from the cause list a contempt of court petition filed against the Dhaka University Vice-chancellor, its Proctor and Treasurer for not taking steps to arrange election of the DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu) in compliance with its earlier directives.

An HC bench of Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Dr KM Hafizul Alam declined to hear the petition and dropped it from the cause list following a brawl between Attorney General Mahbu-bey Alam and petitioner's lawyer Advocate Manzill Murshid, reports UNB. On September 12, Advocate Manzill Murshid filed the petition on behalf of those who had filed a writ petition over the issue.

Earlier on September 4, he served a contempt of court notice to the DU VC Prof Akhtaruzzaman, Proctor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani and Treasurer Dr Kamal Uddin for not taking steps to arrange election of the DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu) in compliance with its earlier directives.

On January 17 last, the HC asked the DU authorities to take necessary steps within the next six months to hold Ducsu election.A writ petition was filed by 25 students of DU in March 2012 seeking its order to compel the authorities concerned to arrange the Ducsu election.
