The High Court (HC) has ordered authorities concerned to give Tk 1 lakh each to the families of five road accident victims in 15 days. The five victims are Faiza Tahsina, 10, Md Miraz Khan, 5, Nusrat Chowdhury, 23, Liza Akter, 9, and Ahmed Rifat, 6.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order yesterday after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard said.
"The court asked home, transport secretaries and chairman of BRTA to comply with the order," Barrister Md Abdul Halim, who moved the writ before the court, told the press.
The HC also issued a rule, asking the authorities concerned to explain in four weeks why they shall not be directed to give Taka 50 lakh in compensation to each of the families of the victims.
Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation and Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) filed the writ in public interest. A total of 18 officials including home and transport secretaries have been made respondents in the writ.
