Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal yesterday said there are corruptions more or less in all countries of the world.Bangladesh is not an exception. At the moment, banks and financial institutions in Bangladesh are in grave danger.
He was addressing as chief guest the annual conference of Agrani Bank at a city hotel in the city yesterday with the bank's Managing Director Shamsul Alam in the chair. Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir was present as special guest. Secretary to Finance Ministry Abdur Rouf Talukder, Secretary to financial institutions division Asadul Islam, BB spokesperson Sirajul Islam, Agrani Bank chairman also attended the program.
The Finance Minister said, "A country cannot be developed in such a situation which prevails in our country. Long-term loans cannot be disbursed taking short-term deposits. Those who think development in such a situation, live in a fool's paradise. The government will take bond system to this end and the system will be introduced through Pran Group."
It was revealed at the conference that Agrani Bank wrote off loans of Tk 127 crore in 2018. In the same period, the number of losing branches stood at 21 and the amount of classified loans stood at Tk 5,751 crore. BB Governor Fazle Kabir said, "Risk of cybercrime is on the rise along with technological development across the globe. Training will be provided to all bank officials to keep the banking sector free from this risk."
