Country's biggest exciting and franchise based T20 cricket extravaganza, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season seven will kick off from December this year with a glitzy opening ceremony.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director and BPL governing council chairman Sheikh Sohel, confirmed the media after BPL governing council meeting with BCB directors I H Mallick, Khaled Mahmud Sujon and BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury Shujan at the SBNCS in Mirpur on Saturday. According to BPL governing council chairman, BPL will start on December 6, just two days after its gala opening ceremony. The grand finale of the mega tournament is expected to be held on January 11 2020.
"Bangladesh will return home from India towards the end of their tour in November. They will take rest for some more days. We'll organize the opening ceremony on December 4. The BPL-7 will start on December 6, just two days after its pompous opening ceremony. We didn't arrange the opening ceremony for the last three editions of the BPL.
If everything remains okay, we'll begin the BPL," Sohel told reporters. "We've sent letters to all the participating BPL franchise teams so that they start their preparation for the glamorous Twenty20 tournament," Sohel added.
The BPL governing council informed the seven franchises of the dates, and have asked them to prepare for the upcoming edition of the tournament through an email. In the previous three editions, BPL was held without opening ceremony.
Even the sixth season was held without any festivity on January 5 due to the eleventh national parliamentary election. The first three editions of the BPL was held colorfully with foreign and local stars' stage show. Sheikh Sohel hints BPL organizers will try to bring its glomour back in the seventh season.
It is noted, BCB's four-year franchise deal with Dhaka Dynamites, Chittagong Vikings, Comilla Victorians and Rangpur Riders, three-year contract with Khulna Titans and Rajshahi Kings and a two-year deal with Sylhet Sixers expired following the last edition of the tournament.
