'Deprived' BCL leaders stage demo -The Asian Age

A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders, who failed to secure any post in the full-fledged BCL committee, demonstrated yesterday at Dhaka University' Aparajeya Bangla premises.

They formed a human chain protesting the attack on them at DU Madhur canteen on Monday. Speakers from the human chain sought exemplary punishment of those carried out the assault. They also demanded dissolving the 'controversial new committee' immediately. Some 50 'deprived' leaders joined the human chain.

BM Lipi, cafeteria and common room affairs secretary of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), decried the inclusion of 'controversial leaders' in the BCL 301-member committee saying: "drug dealers and job holders" were picked up in the committee. "We are not here to get posts. Rather we gathered to protest the absurdity," Lipi added.

Meantime, Nipu Islam Tonni, President of Shamsunnahar Hall Chhatra League and sub-cultural secretary of Central Chhatra League expressed disappointment and vented anger as Awami League' joint general secretary Mahabub-ul Alam Hanif remarks the Madhur canteen' incident as a 'dime'. "How bigger the assault needs to be for their realization? Would it be big enough if we died," Tonni slammed the AL leader.
