The half day hartal of the Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) was observed partially across the country. Government and non-government organizations, NGO's semi-government organizations remained open operating in the capital city and the other parts of the country.
Vehicular movements in the capital city from morning till the afternoon was near normal and all the mills and industrial units operated at Tejgaon Industrial Area and Tongi. The Universities, colleges and other educational institutions remained open during the hartal hours in the capital.
The Left Democratic Alliance , an alliance of some seven political parties called the countrywide hartal . No picketers were seen from 06.00 am to 02.00 pm yesterday on the streets. The activists of CPB were seen on the streets of Gulistan, Sadargar, Mirpur and other places.
CPB leader Kafee Raton said that their activists picketed the roads at Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Shahbagh, Khilgaon and other places in the capital city.
Later the activists came to the Shahbagh intersection. They attended the central meeting held at Purana Palton Square at 12 noon. The central leaders of the Alliance later brought out processions .
Mosharrof Hossain Nannu, coordinator of the Alliance was in the chair at the Palton rally which was addressed among others by BSD President Khalequzzaman, Mohammad Shah Alam of CPB, Saiful Haque, President of Biplobi Workers Party, Gono Sanghati Convener Jonaid Saki, Manash Nandi, Hamidul Haque, Liaqat Ali and others.
The CPB spokeman Kafee Rotan said that the Khulna city office of CPB was ransacked at midnight by the members of law enforcing agencies. Police arrested the city president of Khulna H M Shahadat from the party office.
CPB President Muzahidul Islam Salim was in Moulvibazar during the hartal hours to attend a party event. He told The Asian Age that partial hartal was observed across the country. He thanked the people for their sincere cooperation.He said that out of 64 districts, at least hartal was observed in 50 districts all over the country.
