BNP announces 12-day progarmme seeking Khaleda’s release -The Asian Age

As part of the party’s move to intensify its movement demanding the release of Khaleda Zia, BNP’s different associate bodies will stage a 12-day human-chain programme in the city.

The action programme was worked out at a joint meeting of BNP and its associate bodies at the party’s Nayapaltan central office with its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the chair on Thursday.

After the meeting, Fakhrul announced the programmes at a press conference.

The programmes will begin on September 15 with a human chain to be arranged by Jatiyatabadi Matshajibi Dal.

Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal will form the human chain on September 16 while Tanti Dal on September 17, Association of Engineers, Bangladesh on September 18, Doctors Association of Bangladesh on September 19, Jubo Dal on September 20, Ulema Dal on September 21, Mohila Dal on September 22, Krishak Dal on September 24, Sramik Dal on September 25, Agriculturist Association of Bangladesh September 27 and Swechchasebak Dal on September 28.

Fakhrul said the government is working to eliminate opposition parties from the country by politicising all the state organisations.

He said their party Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been kept in jail by the government out of its political vengeance. “She’s not getting bail, though she deserves to have it.”

The BNP leader said their party is taking programmes in phases to mount pressure on the government to free Khaleda.

On Wednesday, BNP formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club demanding Khaleda’s release from jail and her proper treatment.

The party’s different units are also staging similar programme today in all districts and metropolitan cities to press for the demand.

Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court convicted her in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8, 2018.

She has been receiving treatment at BSMMU since April 1 last.
