The council of the central committee of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League, the youth front of the ruling Awami League, will be held on Nov 23 at Bangabandhu Intern-ational Conference Centre.
Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fixed the date at a meeting with central leaders of the ruling party at Ganab-haban on Wednesday night. Prime Minister's Special Assistant Barrister Biplob Barua said the dates for councils of Awami League's two other associate organisations - Sechchhasebak League and Krishak League - and fraternal organisation Jatiya Sramik have also been set. He said that the council of Kirshak League will be held on Nov 2, Jatiya Sramik League on Nov 9 and Sechchhasebak League on Nov 16. Biplob, also the deputy office secretary of Awami League, said presidents and general secretaries of the organisations have already been informed of the dates.
Jubo League elected Omar Faruk Chowdhury as its chairman in its last council held on July 14, 2012. Swechchhasebak League held its last council on July 11, 2012. Molla Abu Kawser was elected president and Pankaj Debnath general secretary at the time.
Both Jubo League and Swechchhasebak League committees expired a long time ago, but the organisatons did not elect new leaders. The announcement of the councils came amidst arrests and expulsion of several leaders of the organisation as part of a crackdown on illegal gambling and other crimes.
