16 arrested in Abrar murder case: Police -The Asian Age


Police have arrested a total of 16 people so far in connection with the BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case. "Three more persons were arrested today (Thursday) in connection with the Abrar Fahad murder case. A total of 16 people have so far been arrested in this connection," Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)'s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit chief Manirul Islam told a press conference at the DMP, reports BSS.

He said it was possible to immediately arrest the accused of the murder case due to sincere efforts of the police. The CTTC chief said the police started working before filing of the case. Ten persons were arrested immediately and they were taken on a 5-day remand.

Manirul Islam said six more persons have been arrested after the filing of the case. Among the total 16 arrestees, three persons - - Amit Saha, Mizanur Rahman and Shamsul Arefin - who were not made accused in the murder case, have also been arrested as their names came up in the primary investigation, he added. DMP's media and public relations wing arranged the press conference.

Chief of DMP's Detective Branch (DB) Md Abdul Baten and Additional Police Commissioner of DMP Krishna Pada Roy and other senior police officials were present on the occasion.

Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Electric and Electronics Engineering (EEE) Department of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was beaten to death on Sunday. Police recovered his body from the dormitory between ground and second floor of the Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET at 3am on Monday.

Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a case against 19 people with Chalkbazar Police Station in connection with the Abrar murder on Monday last.
