Speakers at a function in Gaibandha on Thursday underscored the need for changing mindset of the males to root out domestic violence from the society. "The males should come forward with positive attitude and play a significant role in preventing violence against women and adolescents", they said.
They made the comments while addressing an advocacy dialogue on 'Responsibility and Role of Male in Preventing Gender Based Violence' at the conference room of District Collectorate Building in Gaibandha on Thursday afternoon. BRAC, an international development organization based in Bangladesh, arranged the function under Gender Justice and Diversity Program in cooperation with district administration.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin addressed the function as the chief guest while Sadar UNO Uttam Kumar Roy and Probationary Officer of Department of Social Services Nazmul Hossain were present at the event as the special guests, reports BSS. Additional deputy commissioner (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat presided over the function.
Councilor of Gaibandha Municipality Tanzimul Islam Piter and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman spoke at the function, among others. Gender Technical Manager of GJD program Zahidur Rahman made a power point presentation at the event.
Abdul Matin in his speeches said there is no alternative but to build gender-based-violence-free society to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030 declared by UNDP.He emphasized creating much awareness among the males so that they could change their behavior towards females to ensure peace and tranquility in the family and the society as well.
He also urged the women to be more tolerant, respectful and courteous during the dealing with the males to get desired behavior.A number of district level officials, public representatives, union parishad members, quazis, imams, teachers, NGO activists, and journalists took part in the function.
