'Parliamentary diplomacy key to solving problems' -The Asian Age


Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury ha said parliamentary diplomacy plays key role in solving problems across the globe.

He came up with the remark while addressing as the keynote speaker a session titled 'Honing Legislative Innovation: Parliamentary Diplomacy For the Future' of 'Dhaka Global Dialogque-2019' jointly organized by Bangladesh Institute of International Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Observer Research Foundation (ORF) of India at Hotel InterContinental in the city on Tuesday.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said, "Parliament, executive and judiciary work for the interest of people. Parliament plays an important role in ensuring the transparency and accountability of the government."

"Parliamentary diplomacy is playing role in enhancing cooperation among countries and IPU, CPA and PUIC are working to this end. Problems and challenges which exist in different countries in the world can be addressed by the parliamentary diplomacy i.e discussion and compromise," she further said.

Global challenges like Climate change, Rohingya crisis, global warming, energy security, green house gas emission, human trafficking and food security can be faced in a concerted way through taking multiparty decisions, JS Speaker said, adding that the future generation will get a safer and more habitable world in this way.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Nahm Razzaque MP, Shamim Haider Patwary MP, former Secretary NI Khan, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das were also present at the program, among others.

'Dhaka Global Dialogue-2019' has been held in Dhaka with a view to achieving prosperity though exchanging experiences about trade, economy, climate, migration and good governance among countries in Indo-Asian region.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the three-day program on Monday. Some 150 delegates from 40 countries have taken part in the dialogue.
