World Heritage Journeys-Buddha was launched in Bangladesh to develop and promote sustainable Buddhist tourism in South Asia.
On this occasion a UNESCO workshop on World Heritage Management is being held from 30 November to 3 December 2019 in Dhaka and Sonargaon jointly organized by the Department of Archaeology and UNESCO Dhaka Office. The Department of Archaeology, Bangladesh Tourism Board and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and UNESCO launched in Bangladesh the Digital Platform "World Heritage Journeys - Buddha."
The Digital Platform "World Heritage Journeys - Buddha" was internationally launched at the 43rd of the World Heritage Committee on 2 July 2019. The Digital Platform is the tangible result of the project the "Buddhist Heritage Route for Sustainable Tourism Development in South Asia: World Heritage Journeys - Buddha", which was generously supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The project aimed to develop and promote sustainable Buddhist tourism in South Asia with focus on three World Heritage Sites: Saanchi World Heritage site from India, Lumbini World Heritage site from Nepal and Paharpur World Heritage site from Bangladesh through the creation of the online platform: http://visitbuddhistworldheritage.com.
Md Hannan Mia, Director General (Additional Secretary), Department of Archaeology, Dr. Bhubon Chandra Biswas, CEO, Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), Hyun-gue Joe, Director, KOICA Dhaka Office and Beatrice Kaldun, Head of Office and UNESCO Representative of Bangladesh were present, among others.
Md Hannan Mia, Dr. Bhubon Chandra Biswas, Hyun-gue Joe and Beatrice Kaldun expressed their interest for their future joint collaboration for safeguarding World Heritage in Bangladesh.
