Fencing team leaves for Nepal today -The Asian Age


Bangladeshi fencers are leaving for Nepal today to participate in the 13th South Asian (SA) Games. Fencing was introduced in Bangladesh back in 2007 but it was not so well-known at that time.

By means of the dedicated efforts and hard work of Bangladesh Fencing Association (BFA), fencing has become a popular game in the country during last two years. BFA hosted a number of fencing tournaments during last couple of years which have encouraged players and boosted their confidence.

Fencers from Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar and different schools, colleges and universities took part in fencing competitions during last two years and this is how Bangladesh has got over a thousand skilled and well-trained fencers.

President of Bangladesh Fencing Association Shoeb Chowdhury said that he is hopeful about the performance of Bangladeshi fencers in SA Games. Bangladeshi fencers have the capability to win more than one gold medals in the contest, he further said. He added that it would lead to a glorious chapter in the country's sports history.

Shoeb Chowdhury expressed gratefulness to Youth and Sports Ministry and Bangladesh Olympic Association for the cooperation they extended for the expansion of fencing.

Secretary General of Bangladesh Fencing Association Major Qamrul Islam (Retd), women team leader Mehjabin Hashem, team managers Monir Hossain and Jahid Hossain and coaches are going to Nepal with Bangladesh fencing team.
