The Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) formally handed over four flyovers to the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC). In this connection, a formal handing over ceremony was held at CCC auditorium.CCC Mayor AJM Nasiruddin and the Chairman of CDA Jahirul Alam Dobash and the senior officials of both organizations were present on the occasion.
The four flyovers constructed by the CDA are Akhtaruzzaman Flyover, MA Manna Flyover, Kadamtali and Dewan Hat flyovers. CDA is entrusted to construct roads and flyovers in Chattogram, but the responsibility of maintenance of those projects is entrusted to CCC.
Those flyovers have been constructed earlier by the CDA. But those projects had not been handed over to CCC. As a result, the maintenance of those projects had been hampered. Now, the CDA has decided to hand over it to CCC.
Meanwhile, the 5.2-kilometre long Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury flyover, the longest of the port city had been opened for traffic on June 6 last year. The flyover has been named after the name of late leader Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu.It may be mentioned that Max-Rankin JV has been appointed for construction of the flyover.
The Muradpur-Lalkhan Bazar flyover project has been approved in the ECNEC on October 1 in 2013. The flyover has been constructed at four lane and the cost has been estimated at taka 5.55 billion Besides, three loops had been constructed at a cost of Taka 235 crore. The city's first Bahaddarhat flyover connected Muradpur-Lalkhan Bazar flyover which had immensely eased huge traffic congestion in the busiest areas of the city.
Besides, the one km long Kadamtali flyover constructed at a cost of taka 58.2 crore has been opened for vehicular traffic on December in 2015 last.
The construction works of flyover started on October in 2011 last which had been completed on June in 2015. The 1.1 km long fly over is 8.5 metre wide. Besides, two more flyovers at Bahaderhat and Dewanhat areas have already been constructed at a cost of taka 1.5 billion giving the port city a new sky view.
The traffic jam of the port city will be eased remarkably with the construction of those flyovers. The most important points of the city of 7 million populations have been selected for construction of the flyovers.
In that handing over ceremony, city mayor told that following the decisions of public works department, the responsibilities of maintenance and preservations of these flyover have been handed over to us and CCC will try level best to comply the decisions. City Mayor in his short delivery said CCC won't have such ability for maintenance and there are some lawful restrictions over it.
He mentioned that some repairing works in Dewanhat and Kadamtali flyor in upper and lower parts need to be done and we have shortage of fund also . He also mentioned that during the forthcoming visit of President Abdul Hamid who will stay in the local circuit house and we should be more responsible to the respective responsibilities.
CDA chairman told that following the decisions of the concerned ministry these flyover have been handed over to CCC.
He mentioned CDA is a development body of a ministry and its prime duty is to construct the big projects and thereafter to transfer to local body organizations for preservation and maintenance.
The Muradpur Flyover is the largest highway overpass in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Its foundation stone was laid in 2013 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina; construction officially began in 2014.The flyover was partially opened on 17 June 2017, and became fully accessible soon after.
