Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a lighthouse for the downtrodden people. He was a symbol of hope and freedom. Bangabandhu pioneered all upheavals for securing the rights of students, workers and farmers.
He talked about the sufferings of farmers and workers in all his speeches. He was an unalloyed friend to farmers and agriculturists. Bangabandhu allotted 101 crore taka for the development of the agricultural sector during the fiscal year of 1972-1973.
A number of agricultural organizations emerged under the thoughtful leadership of Bangabandhu. He spoke of cooperative farming for the country's agricultural development. Bangabandhu was a progressive leader possessing towering qualities. He gave first class status to agriculturists in 1973 while attending a program in Bangladesh Agriculture University.
Bangladesh has now become a role model to the whole world in terms of agricultural progress as a result of the visionary leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
There were reflections of modernism in Bangabandhu's thoughts, merit and spirit. He often said that Bangladesh would develop through the advancement of agriculture and villages. The tragic assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975 put Bangladesh on the back-foot by fifty years. Bangladesh can become a prosperous country by 2041 by implementing the agricultural views of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
