Students from ethnic groups get bicycles in Sherpur -The Asian Age


A total of 151 students get scholarships, 11 students get bicycles and grants have been distributed among 5 poor families for installation of deep tube-wells and semi-permanent sanitary latrines among 3 poor families of ethnic group's in Nakla of Sherpur district on Monday noon.

The scholarships, bicycles and grants were given under the program title "Development Assistance for Special Areas" adopted by the office of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina. On the occasion, Nakla upazila administration organized a distribution program at the upazila parishad auditorium of Nakla.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zahidur Rahman presided over the distribution program, where Shah Md Burhan Uddin upazila chairman of Nakla was present as the chief guest. Assistant Commissioner (AC Land) Tahmina Tarin and Upazila Secondary Education Officer (USEO) Mohammad Abdur Rashid were present as special guests.

Among others, Subash Chandra Biswas president, Ranjit Kumar Biswas vice-president, Ramchandra Biswas general secretary, members Nimai Chandra Biswas, Nandu Chandra Biswas, Prafulla Marak and Nipen Chandra Biswas and other officials of Tribal Welfare Association of Nakla upazila branch, more than hundred students and guardians of ethnic group and journalists of different media were also present.

According to the information of Tribal Welfare Association, a total of Tk 218,100 distributed among to the 78 pre-primary students, 47 secondary students, 14 higher secondary students and 11 students of degree level get scholarship.

Among others, at list 11 bicycles distributed among the 11 students, worth Tk 8,000 of each bicycle. A grant of Tk 50,000 for the installation of a deep tube-well in five families and Tk 144,000 for the installation of semi-sanitary latrines in three families.
