Gaibandha DC visits river erosion affected areas -The Asian Age

Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Abdul Matin on Thursday visited river erosion affected areas- of Goghat, Sahapara under Kamarjani union of Sadarupazila and Khanabari, Sreepur, Kuruabadha under Sreepur union and Vatikapasia of Sundarganj upazila by a boat.

During the visit, the DC talked to the river erosion affected persons and inquired about their wellbeing. In that time, the river erosion victims requested the DC to start river bank protection work at the vulnerable points without delay in a bid to check the home steeds, and arable lands by the river of the Brahmaputra, one of the mighty rivers in the country, reports BSS.

Abdul Matin assured them saying that river bank protection work would start next dry season under a gigantic project of the government.The DC also said a number of risky and vulnerable points of the upazilas are being protected through dumping geo textiles sand bags at the initiative of Bangladesh water Development Board (BWDB).

Executive engineer of BWDB Moklasur Rahman who accompanied the DC said a big project involving Taka 400 crore had already been passed by the ECNEC meeting on July 26. Under the project river bank protection work along the right bank of the river from Kamarjani under Sadar upazila to Horipur under Sundarganj upazila to check the erosion by the river, he said.

Under the work of the project CC block will be install at the bank of the river, he added. Apart from it 18 km long embankment from Kamarjani to Horipur would also be built at the cost of Tk 100 crore under the project, he further added. The project work would start in December next, he expected.
