Chittagong Chember of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam has shared his concern as onion price has gone up the chart in last week. He stated at a press conference on 15th September that onion prices have increased in the local market. For this reason, consumers are trying to buy onions on a huge quantity which is disrupting the price balance eveb more.
In the meantime, some corrupted dealers are taking this as an advantage and trying to increase the price. As most of the stock has been imported before this situation, there is no logical reason to increase prices as of this moment. He also informed that there is already enough stock of onion so consumers should not panic on false propaganda.
He urged importers to import onions from China, Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey to sort out this situation. Importers can also import onions from Mianmar via land ports, he added. At the press conference, Mahbubul Alam urges authorities to send onions to TCB outlets more frequently. He also urged to consumers to not be panicked in this situation and not to buy huge amounts of onions at once as this product cannot be stored for long.
