Though there is a fear the second wave of coronavirus may hit the country, thousands of Muslims have attended the namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayers) of Golam Sarwar Sayeedi, the principal of Araibari Islamia Sayeedia Alia Madrasa, in Brahmanbaria.

The Islamic scholar died at a hospital in the capital early Saturday and his body was brought to Araibari Darbar Sharif in Kasba upazila of the district.The namaz-e-janaza of Golam Sarwar Sayeedi was held at Araibari Darbar Sharif after Asr prayers.Law Minister Anisul Huq, a lawmaker from Brahmanabria-4 constituency, also took part in the funeral prayers.

Golam Sarwar Sayeedi's body later laid to rest at Araibari Darbar Shair.About the compliance of health rules, UNO Masud Ul Alam said: "We were conscious about health rules. Three executive magistrates monitored the compliance of health rules. There were no shortcomings in our efforts."

Lokman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kasba Police Station, said: "We were busy in maintaining law and order as a large number of people attended the janaza. We tried our best to ensure the maintenance of health directives."Brahmanbaria Civil Surgeon Ekram Ullah said: "There shouldn't be a problem if health rules were followed. If not, there is a risk of corona infection."
