Compensation cheques have been distributed among affected cattle farmers whose cattle were killed by/infected with zoonotic disease (subject to dispose). The cheques were given under the Veterinary Public Health Service Strengthening and Protection Project under the Department of Livestock Services at district livestock office in Rangpur on Monday (October 11).
Chief Guest Dr Shaikh Azizur Rahman, Director General, Department of Livestock Services, handed over the cheques to affected cattle farmers as the chief guest. Mohammad Ismail Hossain, director of the divisional livestock services department in Rangpur, presided over the function.
District livestock offices of Rangpur and Nilphamari also spoke at the cheques hand-over ceremony. The project is underway in 201 upazilas of 28 districts across the country. Under this project, DDP has resources for compensation and safe disposal of dead body of cattle infected with zoonotic diseases at the farm level. In addition, there is provision for compensation of Tk 80,000 for adult cattle/buffaloes dead/ infected with zoonotic disease and Tk 40,000 for 1 year old calves.
Accordingly, samples of dead/cattle-buffaloes infected with 4 zoonotic diseases such as bovin TB, Anthrax, Brucellosis and Rabies were sent from the project upazilas to the Central Disease Investigation Laboratory (CDIL) and the results were obtained from Veterinary Public Health Division, Mohakhali, Dhaka and as per the positive results, compensation is being provided among cattle farmers as well as for safe disposal. A total of Tk 21,20,000 were distributed among the cattle farmers in Rangpur district. Compensation and safe disposal activities under this project will continue till June 2023.
