Amid surging Covid-19 infections, the Cabinet Division on Tuesday issued six directives and wrote to all ministries and departments of the government to implement these.
In its letter, the Cabinet Division said the number of Covid-19 cases was witnessing a rapid increase, and that the public was reluctant to wear masks and abide by other health rules.
The six directives to be followed are:
* The media has to be requested to motivate the public to abide by hygiene rules.
* "No mask, no service" policy has to be implemented. Social distancing has to be maintained and public gatherings have to be avoided.
* Everyone has to wear masks and maintain social distancing at places of worship.
* People have to be encouraged to get themselves tested for Covid-19 if they show any symptoms consistent with the disease.
* Every person at shops, shopping malls, marketplaces and restaurants has to wear masks.
* Violators of the mask rule have to be punished legally. Imams during Friday sermons have to raise awareness about wearing masks and complying with health rules.
* The Covid-19 infection has kept rising in Bangladesh day by day creating panic among people again.
* The country on Monday logged 2,101 cases in 24 hours, the most since February 19, while two more people died due to the deadly virus during the period.
Bangladesh on Tuesday logged 2,087 cases in 24 hours while three more people died due to the deadly virus during the period.
The total infection tally has now stood at 1,969,361 and death toll has reached 29,145, according to the latest government data released on Tuesday.
"Bangladesh reported 15.47 Covid-19 positive cases as 13,889 samples were tested in the last 24 hours," Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) sources said.
The recovery count rose to 19,07,067 after another 200 patients were discharged from the dedicated hospitals during the past one day.
