With a slogan of 'Committed to save the local tradition and culture', the academy started its journey. Days have passed and the age of the academy is now 14 years. To celebrate Ustad Momtaz Ali Khan Sangeet Academy's 14th anniversary, folk song program and seminar was held at the Shahbag Central Public Library on January 8 from 5pm.
The program started with famous song of Ustad Momtaz Ali Khan's 'Agun Jalaishna Amar Gay', performed by the students of the academy. The song was led by Simanta Sajal, a singer of the academy. After that, the dance artists of the academy performed with the song 'Jaiona Jaiona Bondhure, Bideshe Jaiona Pran'. The dance was choreographed by Sagar Acharchya, the dance instructor of the academy. After that the discussion seminar started. The seminar was attended by Emirates Professor Dr Anisuzzaman as a chief guest, cultural personality Golam Kuddus, and executive editor of the academy Jayanta Acharchya. The whole discussion was led by the president of the academy Rupu Khan.
This year Sudin Das, Swadin Bangla Betar Kendra singer Bipul Bhattacharya, Rathindranath Roy and folk singer Mina Barua received Lifetime Achievement Award. The second session was full of folk songs. The songs were performed by Mina Barua, Abu Bakkar Siddique, Dil Afroz Reba, Narayan Chandra Sheel, Nurun Nahar Awal, MD Rahmat Ullah, Nasrin Fardous Chaman, Pappu, Ilias, Krishna Baul and Rupu Khan. All the folk songs were composed by Ustad Momtaz Ali Khan.
