With the theme "Big Data for Big Impact", World Telecommuni-cation and Information Society Day (WTISD) observed in Bangladesh along with other countries in the globe. Marking the day, posts and telecommunications division and its affiliate organizations have chalked out elaborate programs across the country to raise awareness on the possibilities that the use of the Internet and ICT can bring to societies and economies, as well as the ways to bridge the digital divide. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the eve of the day.
They called upon all concerned to make more meaningful contributions for ensuring utmost use of telecommunication for development and progress of the country. To mark the day, a rally and road show brought out from the Suhrawardy Udyan in the morning which is scheduled to parade different streets in the city.
State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim inaugurated the event. Well-decorated vehicles of mobile phone operators and different organizations will take part in the rally. Besides, President Abdul Hamid is expected to inaugurate the main event of the day in city's Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the online essay competition and hekaton on "Big Data" organized on the occasion. On the other hand, a seminar has also been organized marking the day at IEB auditorium in the city on May 18.
Besides, Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) has organized a celebration program, including cultural event and dinner at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the city.
