Hanif: SC verdict reflects independent judiciary -The Asian Age

Awami League's joint general secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif said on Saturday that the latest verdict by Supreme Court on constitution's sixteenth amendment is a reflection of judiciary's independence in Bangladesh. At the same time he said, "The country's people are worried about this verdict."

Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif made this remark on Saturday in Rajshahi while speaking at a program as chief guest hosted by Islamic Foundation in the auditorium of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.  Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif said that the observations issued with the Supreme Court's verdict have undermined members of parliament. Members of parliament set up government and that government appoints officials for all departments including judiciary, he added.

He further said parliament represents people of the entire country. Supreme Court's verdict has taken power away from people, Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif remarked. He termed those as conspirators who are speaking against father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The country's people would never allow anyone  to distort history, he asserted.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam also spoke on the occasion. It was presided over by Helal Mahmud Sharif, deputy commissioner of Rajshahi. Higher officials of other administrative wings and public representatives were present at that time.
