Why Princess Diana often wore two watches -The Asian Age

When it comes to style, Princess Diana was a pioneer and not afraid to push boundaries when it came to her outfit choices.

And one of the late royal’s most avant-garde choices turns out to be one of her most romantic.

In July 1981, a young Diana Spencer attended the polo at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor to watch her husband-to-be Princes Charles play the sport.

Images of her at the event show the beautiful star wearing two watches on her wrist, but was there a hidden meaning in it?

According to Marie Claire, the thin, gold metallic watch belonged to Diana, but the one with the dark, leather strap belonged to Charles.

The Princess is said to have worn the item as a tribute to her fiancé, so it would bring him good luck in the match.

The act harks back to the middle ages when a lady would tie her handkerchief to the back of a knight’s helmet as a token of her favor before a joust.

While the marriage between the couple didn’t last, the sweet act has been hailed as extremely romantic, especially as the pair were to tie the knot just days later.

It’s not the first time a royal family member has worn a sentimental item.

Kate Middleton currently wears Princess Diana’s $41 million sapphire engagement ring.

It was given to Kate by Will to ensure his mother would be part of their special occasion on April 29, 2011.

According to The Mirror, Pippa bought a Merci Maman necklace for the Duchess back in 2013 – the necklace continuing a tradition first started by Princess Diana when she gave birth to Kate’s husband, Prince William.

Kate’s necklace features a gold-plated disc inscribed with the words “George Alexander Louis,” alongside it is a smaller charm engraved with a “W” for William, as well as a charm in the shape of a little boy.

Diana wore a similar necklace, which was given to her by Prince Charles and it included the word “William” engraved on the front.
