Bangladeshi actress Joya Ahsan added another feather in her cap by winning yet another prestigious award as the best actress in the 3rd edition of Indian Film Festival Caleidoscope 2017. She was awarded as best actress for her brilliant role in the Indian Bengali film Bishorjon. The film was directed by eminent filmmaker Kaushik Ganguly. The news of the award was confirmed by Joya Ahsan herself.
The three-day festival began on September 8 and ended on September 11 in Boston, Massachusetts of the United States of America. The winners name was announced on the concluding day. With this, Bishorjon won two awards including the best film in the festival. Joya Ahsan received the best actress award in the critic's category at International Bengali Film Award for the same film.
Though made in Kolkata, Bishorjon is not only an Indian film. The film depicts Bangladesh in its story as it stars Bangladeshi actress Joya. Bishorjon is a story of love between a Bangladeshi girl and Indian boy in the context of the complex situation between Bangladeshi-India borders.
Joya Ahsan plays a young Hindu widow who lives in a dilapidated house near the bank of Ichamoti River in Bangladesh. Her character's name is Padma. She has a paralyzed father-in-law whom she cannot abandon.
The story continues with the struggle she faces by looking after her father-in-law. Eventually she meets with Nasir Ali (Abir Chatterjee) and a beautiful relationship begins to grow between them.
Produced by Opera Movies, the film was released on last Pahela Baishakh. The film has already bagged the Best Bengali film award at the 64th National Film Awards 2017. Joya also helmed best actress award for the same film in the same event.
